West Bay
Just a 15 minute drive from the cottage, West Bay hosts a beautiful working harbour as well as a wonderful beach. This charming fishing village is just a mile South of Bridport on the Jurassic coastline. If you think it looks familiar, you may have already seen it featured on ITV crime drama Broadchurch starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman. West Bay also has some great places to eat and drink, in fact it?s my favourite place to visit when I stay at the cottage. Word of warning, if you decide to take a relaxing stroll down the beautiful beach please don?t walk directly under the crumbling cliffs!
Bridport
In just 15 minutes you can also visit the bustling market town of Bridport which offers a wide range of shops, pubs and eateries. If you love street markets, make sure you visit on a Wednesday or Saturday to see this town in its full glory. It has a great reputation for arts culture and food
Lyme Regis
If you fancy venturing slightly further afield, Lyme Regis is a 30 minute drive from the cottage. With yet another beautiful beach, a wide selection of boutique shops and great places to eat and drink, what?s not to love about Lyme Regis. While you?re there, you can take a stroll to the amazing Cobb harbour and enjoy some of the of the most amazing views of the coastline ? weather permitting of course.
Charmouth
If you and the family love fossil hunting, Charmouth is the place to go. My little girl spends hours with her hammer and chisel looking for treasure. The best place to look is around the cliffs as some of these fossils were formed 200 million years ago. For a full explanation of how and where to look, visit the free heritage centre. Don?t forget to put safety goggles on the children before you let them loose with a hammer and chisel.
